Collection Fokos
A luxury home in the Canavese-district village where poet Guido Gozzano was born. In this house in Agliè, constructed to a design by Studio Associato Architetti Paglia with architect Cristiano Agostini, the many and varied Laminam collections used for the flooring, paving and cladding create an aesthetic that is both modern and sumptuous. The large slabs of the I Naturali, Fokos, Ossido and Filo collections combine beauty and convenience in stunning interiors.
Blending the classical and the contemporary
A small village a few kilometres from Turin, on the slopes of the Macugnano hills, Agliè is famous as the birthplace of Guido Gozzano. Villa Il Meleto – the poet’s summer home – is now a museum, where visitors can admire the family settings and decadent ambiences that inspired him. This same taste, with a skilful blend of the classic and the contemporary, recurs in this private home, designed by Studio Associato Architetti Paglia and architect Cristiano Agostini. The project places great emphasis on materials and surfaces, in a house where modern lines combine with the natural, almost archetypal forms of carefully chosen furnishings. The resulting interior is both practical and striking, enhanced by careful design of the light sources, which emphasise the different textures and multiple colours of the Laminam surfaces: the dark shades of the marbles and flooring contrast with the white and grey of the wall claddings. This backdrop in graduated shades of grey is delicately interrupted by items of furniture in pastel shades, before the contrast becomes more emphatic with the introduction of red lacquered surfaces.
A splendid array of Laminam surfaces
The Laminam large slabs chosen for the flooring, paving and cladding fit perfectly into this luxurious dynamism; the I Naturali, Fokos, Ossido and Filo collections appear in a large number of shades, generating poetic contrasts while maintaining a common aesthetic language.
The most widely used collection is certainly I Naturali, the Laminam series inspired by the great materials of the Italian architectural tradition. Diamond Cream is already encountered outdoors, as paving of the terrace: it is an exquisite, delicate shade, almost a visual caress, deployed here in the Bush-Hammered finish. Walking indoors, we cross the internal flooring of the entrance hall, the ground floor and the staircase that leads down from there to the first basement floor, all in Noir Desir, which bestows the sophisticated elegance of marble on interior design projects and evokes a sumptuous decorative aesthetic. Its dark colouring run through with veins is emphasised by the Polished finish. Calacatta Michelangelo and Calacatta Oro Venato were used for the floorings and claddings of the bathroom, while Verde Alpi Bush-Hammered and Pietra Grey appear in the flooring and cladding of the first basement bathroom and the cladding of the ground floor bathroom respectively. The pale shades of the two Calacatta marbles, with their pale grey and taupe (Calacatta Michelangelo) or sumptuously golden (Calacatta Oro Venato) veins, establish a refined contrast with the exquisite mineral character of Verde Alpi and compact, uniform Pietra Grey.
The warm, inviting, ancestral Terra colour of the Fokos collection also features on the first basement floor, while the cladding of the bathroom on the second basement floor offers fascinating interplays of light and the strongly tactile surface of Filo, the series based on the image of an endlessly recurring thread that covers the ceramic slabs with what almost resembles a metallic skin; in the Mercurio shade, the result is truly breathtaking.
Passing from the first to the second basement floor, we walk down a staircase clad, like the flooring of the second floor itself, with Laminam Ossido in Bruno colour. This is another stunning collection, which captures the moment when the visual effects of oxidising sheets of copper and metal are at their loveliest. Metallic impressions are also the theme of Fokos Piombo, the last Laminam collection used for the floor and claddings of this extremely characterful house.
These surfaces were chosen for their combination of superlative appearance and many practical benefits: apart from their strength and durability, they are also easy to clean and sanitise, all qualities that ensure comfort and freedom for the people who live in these interiors every day.
“The design of this home, created for a client who wanted large, comfortable interiors but still appreciated the value of exquisite details, achieves a fine balance between the traditional and the contemporary. Skilfully deployed, the Laminam surfaces made the most of every space, with elegance, practicality and a surprising modernity. A project that affirms the ability of high-quality materials to realise a tasteful, timeless aesthetic vision.”
