NYLA | Riad Wellness & Spa

NYLA | Riad Wellness & Spa

A secluded sanctuary that reveals the most authentic, romantic side of Marrakesh: NYLA | Wellness Riad & Spa is a project that achieves a refined fusion of tradition and modernity. A hospitality location of genuine excellence, styled by architect Mattia Siviero and Designer Corinne Dressler of the MSDA architectural practice, the Riad’s recent expansion completes this wellbeing sanctuary opened in 2023. Here, sophisticated design combines with the amazing versatility and outstanding performance of Laminam slabs, used once again as wall cladding, as flooring and as finishes of the facility’s furnishing elements.

Natural materials for an authentic experience

Designer Corinne Dressler’s creative approach aims to “unite the location, its identity and its history in a stylistic universe constructed over time”. In the Riad’s new area, the materials, colours and evocations of Arab culture all merge perfectly in a contemporary aesthetic that references the glamour of the past and embraces the modern comfort of luxury hospitality. Every detail, from the zellige tiles (glazed decorative tiles typical of the Moroccan craft tradition) to the textiles, reflects the rich history of the local culture and offers a sensory experience in which art and culture become one — the ideal setting for an irresistible escape.

The general concept of NYLA | Wellness Riad & Spa focuses on the return to origins and nature, highlighting the fundamentals of life: earth, water and vegetation, symbolised by meticulous use of natural materials like wood, Laminam ceramics, stone and traditional Moroccan features. The naked beige of Essaouira stone recalls the softness of skin, while the ochre, ivory, gold, white and brown shades of the Laminam collections were chosen for specific applications in the communal spaces and in the suites to bring to mind Morocco’s landscape and its desert. The green zellige tiles, deployed with elegant restraint, speak of the vegetation and vitality of the oases and symbolise a harmonious bond with life itself.

The Laminam ceramic surfaces chosen for NYLA

The Laminam ceramic surfaces chosen for NYLA

The use of Laminam ceramic slabs helps to define the Riad’s interiors with timeless elegance and impeccable practicality. The fountain, the central feature of the foyer, provides a striking focal point, where the intense shades of Ossido Bruno alternate in a concentric pattern with bright Calacatta Oro Venato Polished, creating an eye-catching interplay of reflections, depths and textures.

The large central patio invites guests into a small palace from the “Thousand and One Nights”, capturing their attention with the natural plant motif on the arches, emphasised by the gilded light fittings carved by Marrakesh artisans. Here the floor, a crossroad of styles, welcomes the guest with the distinctive colour of Pietra Piasentina Taupe, and also features a mandala, a symbol of good luck and serenity, with at its centre a blue eye in Fluidosolido Blu Polished, set in its turn within an octagonal geometric form inspired by Moroccan gardens. The personality of the Fluidosolido collection – its oxymoron name befitting a surface conceived around contrasts – combines well with the shades that construct the mandala: from the opulence of Seta Oro to the warm textures of Porfido Marrone and Pietra Piasentina Taupe Natural (both from the IN-SIDE collection), and from the simple elegance of Calce Terracotta and Avorio, to the sophisticated purity of Bianco Lasa Polished and Calacatta Oro.

The Riad’s many bathrooms are a celebration of simple luxury. The wall claddings and floorings are in the exquisite Diamond Cream Polished and Bianco Lasa Bush-Hammered shades from the I Naturali collection, combined with the Calce Terracotta and Avorio hues. Here, the ceramic surfaces are viewed as furnishing elements in their own right, meticulously finished to create a mood of luxury and wellbeing. The aesthetic level is also particularly high in the toilets, with Calacatta Oro Venato Polished, Travertino Navona Bush-Hammered and Calce Terracotta used for the wall claddings and floorings, providing a Laminam total-look that dialogues with the rest of the interior design.

The outdoor terrace extends a warm invitation to continue relaxing: Travertino Navona Bush-Hammered installed as paving emphasises the beige of the Essaouira stone bricks of the wall, making time stand still at the moment when traditional building methods meet Laminam’s ceramic innovation and know-how. The table clad in IN-SIDE Porfido Marrone Natural continues to express this encounter between eras: the collection is named after the state-of-the-art technology with which Laminam has succeeded in shifting yet another paradigm, by creating continuity of material across the surface, edges and body of each slab.

The fitness centre, located in the basement, is designed to provide guests with renewed energy and wellbeing, with wall claddings in Laminam Calce Terracotta and Bianco Lasa Bush-Hammered. The arched design of the Essaouira stone harmonises with the curved lines typical of the Riad’s interiors, an architectural inspiration drawn from antique cellars for a modern exercise facility.

Comfort in the Riad’s most intimate interiors

Each bedroom provides a unique experience, created with Made in Italy ceramics, Moroccan craftsmanship, custom-shaped slabs and traditional furnishing. In the floorings and wall claddings of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the Laminam collections are applied in accordance with classical Moroccan geometrical patterns, achieving a Laminam Effect that beautifies every interior. Guests will be immersed in a blend of oriental sophistication and the most absolute relaxation.
